The Novelties show in Hall 1A will focus on new and unknown breeds - since 2008, a permanent constituent of IPM ESSEN.

On the day before the opening of the fair, a knowledgeable jury will choose the best innovations from international plant breeders in the following categories, "Flowering and Green House Plants", "Spring-Flowering Plants", "Bedding and Balcony Plants", "Cut Flowers", "Perennial Plants", "Woody Plants" as well as "Tub Plants". All the innovations will be exhibited throughout the period of the fair.

Show Your Colours Award

All exhibitors of IPM Essen with woody plants and perennials will be able to submit their plants, provided with an explanatory text, for the Show Your Colours Award 2019. Here, the storytelling is essential. With the Show Your Colours Award, the stories will be put in the limelight during IPM ESSEN 2019.

During all days of the exhibition the nominated plants will be exhibited separately in a special area in Hall 8. All visitors are invited to participate with their vote in the evaluation of exhibits. The submissions will be assessed by an expert jury. The award ceremony of the Show Your Colours Award will take place on Thursday, 24 January 2019, at 3 pm in Hall 8 at booth 8A40.

The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) invites the ornamentals horticulture industry to join the AIPH International Grower of the Year (IGOTY) Awards 2018, where we recognise best practice in horticultural production by the top ornamental production nurseries from around the world. This is a unique opportunity for growers, traders, suppliers, retailers, business leaders and all those linked to the ornamental industry to benefit from international networking across the ornamentals horticulture industry. With two new categories this year there are now even more ways to be a winner.

The categories are:

  • FINISHED PLANTS AND TREES - Plants and trees ready for final sale.
  • YOUNG PLANTS - Cuttings, plugs, liners, seedlings, etc, sold for growing on.
  • CUT FLOWERS AND BULBS - Flowers and foliage cut for indoor decorative use and bulbs.
  • NEW - SUSTAINABILITY AWARD - Best practice and innovation in improving sustainability.
  • NEW - INSPIRING BUSINESS AWARD - Small businesses (less than ten employees) that demonstrate unique qualities and innovation.

Growers, horticultural businesses and industry peers can all get involved by either entering the competition, sponsoring the event or attending the gala dinner and awards ceremony.

IPM Tade Fair Cup

At the end of the IPM ESSEN, the traditional award ceremony for the IPM Trade Fair Cup will take place again in the FDF World; the 2019 title is “Wild Thing".

On Friday, 25 January 2019, at 11 p.m., visitors will not only learn who won in the three division competitions “Gefäßpflanzung” (container planting), “Deko-Topfpflanze” (decorative potted plants) and “Strauß” (bouquets), but also who will take home the coveted IPM Trade Fair Cup.

In addition, the best trainees for each of the division competitions will also receive a trophy. The horticultural and floral pieces can be seen during the entire trade fair in Hall 1A.

Enabled to participate: apprentices, gardeners, florists, foremen, technicians, engineers as well as pupils of trade schools in the sectors floristry and horticulture.
