Growers obtain starter plants from Volmary in May and June and pot them into a 3l container. To obtain a well-formed crown, the small stem should be pinched out as necessary two or three times over the course of the summer. After the autumn leaf fall, they should be given preventative treatment for leaf curl. Overwintering takes place ideally in a frost-free position. Sales begin from March, shortly before or during flowering and run through till May-June, when the first small fruits whet the appetite for a rich harvest.
A particular highlight in the range is the white balcony peach ‘Fruit Me® Icepeach’. This outstanding variety produces radiant white fruits with a particularly juicy flesh - a dream! The fruits ripen early and can be harvested from the beginning of July.
The popular balcony orchard peach can also be cultivated at home with the variety 'Fruit Me® Peach Donut'. This variety produces many fruits with a wonderful scent, which are particularly easy to eat due to their flat shape.
The fruits of the yellow balcony peach ‘Fruit Me® Peach Yellow’ are lusciously juicy. Its counterpart is the red balcony peach ‘Fruit Me® Peach Red’ which has appetising red-coloured fruits with white flesh that is soft and aromatic. The fruit are ready to harvest from the middle to end of July.
The Herb-Trio 'Pasta Deluxe' contains the best flavours for aromatic sauces: oregano, thyme and basil. These herbs supply typical Italian aromas for hearty tomato sauces or for pasta with olive oil, garlic and fresh herbs. Simply delicious!
Exceptional and brilliant blooms with a large eye in the centre of the flower really make the Star primrose ‘Jupiter®’ series stand out.
The two new primroses 'Jupiter® Orange Glow' and 'Jupiter® Apricot Red Eye' fit perfectly into the series and add to the wide colour palette. Like all ‘Jupiter®’ primroses, these new versions flower medium-early, captivating with their blossom from February onwards. Ideally, a 10.5 to 11 cm pot is used to provide these high-end plants with sufficient nutrients and space.
The Sweet white or orange flesh, full of vitamins and very productive - these are the qualities of the new sweet potato ‘Erato®'. It is really simple to cultivate at home in large pots, tubs or beds.
Vegetarian and vegans already know very well the unmistakeable sweet and creamy taste of the sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), because it is an ideal base for vegetarian recipes. It tastes really good in exotic curry dishes and combines very well with other vegetables such as peas, carrots, courgettes or aubergines.
Success with cultivation is quite simple with the new, high-yield varieties from Volmary: 'Erato White' which is characterised by its very fragrant white flesh and 'Erato® Orange' which has a very orange-coloured flesh.
For both varieties it is recommended that growers use a 12 cm pot. Plants are ready after just 4 - 5 weeks and these sweet potatoes can be sold to gardening consumers. Pruning/clipping is not necessary in normal cultivation conditions. As with all sweet potatoes, they should be grown at a temperature of at least 16 °C. For regular sales, perhaps with other cultivated vegetables, planting in batches is best.
Amateur gardeners should take care when planting out that they select a warm and sunny position. Growing plants perform best in large containers, planted out in flower borders or in standard vegetable beds.
Very much like potatoes, sweet potatoes develop large tubers during the summer that can be harvested in autumn and stored for a long time with limited protection from the frost. Up until then their vibrant green leaves are very decorative, whether hanging down or covering the ground and preventing weeds.
The white and slightly wavy edges of the otherwise deep-blue flowers look like they are coated with sugar icing. This gives them a unique appearance and offers nurseries and garden centres the opportunity to establish themselves as suppliers of high-quality products. ‘Sacarina Blue’ produce large impressive flowers from the end of February and can be grown in 10-11 cm pots.
The new Ocean Primrose 'Nautilus® Blue Vein' is very distinctive, its mid-sized blooms displaying a wonderful maritime colour palette in blue-white striped tones. The intensive yellow hue of the star-shaped eye draws attention with an additional dash of colour, making this primrose a charming and unbeatable Spring highlight. Like the star primroses, Ocean primroses bloom primarily in February.
The double-flowered Anemone series ‘Animo Double’ (Anemone coronaria) has an exceptional flower shape: the large blooms develop an outer and an inner ring of petals, with inner petals that are slim and tapered. This makes the flowers look particularly sumptuous and gives the anemones a bold appearance.
The new ‘Amino Double’ series is available in three different, intensely brilliant colours:
Herb-Trio 'Asia Wok’ delivers the aromatic magic of Asia. Mint, silver-leaved curry plant (Helichrysum) and mushroom plant (Rungia klossii) give stir fries a classic oriental note. Just fry a couple of leaves with the vegetables and a wonderfully aromatic wok recipe is ready!
For anyone without the space for a large herb garden, these herb-trios provide their favourite fresh herbs in just one space-saving pot. Each assortment is perfectly chosen for each type of dish.
The new Herb Trio 'Ice Tea' brings together mint, lemon balm and lemon verbena to create the perfect fragrance for refreshing iced tea.
The Herb Trio 'Punch Fix' is ideal for fruit punch bowls, with lemon balm, French tarragon and sweet woodruff. Let the leaves steep in water or wine for a couple of hours, then you’re ready to use the flavours to create delightful drinks!
