Company profile

Fairtrade is the best-known sustainability seal on the market and it is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Fairtrade is unique. We work with businesses, consumers and campaigners. Farmers and workers have an equal say in everything we do. Empowerment is at the core of who we are.  Fairtrade sets social, economic and environmental standards for both companies and the farmers and workers who grow the food we love. For farmers and workers the standards include protection of workers’ rights and the environment, for companies they include the payment of the Fairtrade Minimum Price and an additional Fairtrade Premium to invest in business or community projects of the community’s choice.

More than 1.8 million farmers and workers are part of the Fairtrade-system. They are organized in more than 1.400 Fairtrade-certified producer organizations in 73 countries. 23 % of all farmers and workers in Fairtrade are women. Fairtrade stands for a wide range of products.
