Promeco Bioextruder® turns wood into sustainable wood fiber.
The Promeco Bioextruder® is a patented mechanical-thermal technology that transforms wood and other lignocellulosic materials into renewable, porous and pathogen-free wood fiber through a steam-explosion extrusion process.
By heating biomass to about 125 °C using mechanical pressure and friction, the system opens the wood’s structure without chemicals, producing an absorbent material ideal for sustainable horticultural substrates.
Its compact design unifies thermal and mechanical actions, ensuring high efficiency, automatic operation, low OPEX (≈6 kWh/m³), minimal maintenance, and a capacity of about 40 m³/h EN.
The Bioextruder processes diverse feedstocks, from virgin wood to compost oversize, making it central to peat-free substrates.
Through the Promeco process, one can utilize it up to 70 per cent - a core technological solution that enables the efficient integration of wood fiber into nursery topsoils, enhancing their structure, performance, and overall sustainability.

The Bioextruder is a patented, industry-proven machine with more than twenty-five years of successful operation worldwide.
Through a unique extrusion process, the system applies pressure and friction to the incoming material, raising its temperature to up to 125 °C. This triggers a steam explosion that effectively defibrates the wood, transforming its physical structure and eliminating harmful bacteria.

The resulting wood fiber is clean, uniform, and ready to use. It offers excellent water and nutrient retention, low salt content, and a neutral pH. It blends easily into growing media mixes and requires no additional treatment before use.
