The generational shift in the German horticultural sector is in full swing. Young entrepreneurs today face major challenges – from economic transformation and a shortage of skilled workers to new market requirements. In response to these challenges, personal exchange can become a decisive factor for success. To support the next generation and foster dialogue, the first-ever Young Entrepreneurs' Day will take place at IPM ESSEN on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, in the Congress Centre West, Hall Europa.
With this new format, the world's leading horticultural trade fair (27 to 30 January 2026 at Messe Essen) is creating a platform for exchange, inspiration and cooperation. The aim is to motivate young entrepreneurs to learn from each other and jointly develop strategies for a successful future for the industry.
‘The Young Entrepreneurs' Day is our way of offering young leaders in the sector a place to meet – as a source of inspiration, a networking platform and a starting point for new perspectives in horticulture,’ explains Andrea Hölker, project manager of IPM ESSEN.
IPM ESSEN is supported by the associations of the green industry, which are accompanying this day. Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf, President of the Central Horticultural Association (ZVG) and the Horticultural Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as Chair of the IPM Advisory Board, emphasises: ‘The next generation is the future of horticulture. Their ideas, courage and innovative strength are crucial to ensuring the long-term success of our industry.’
