Clematis Eliza™ EviGsy158 (PBR) new for 2026

Clematis Eliza™ EviGsy158 (PBR) new for 2026
Innovation

Eliza is the 8th clematis to be released from the Evison Guernsey (EviGsy) breeding programme and as such has the inherent flower power you have seen from the previous releases. Why Eliza? The book of "Ebenezer Le Page" is a novel by Guernsey born writer Gerald Basil Edwards and depicts a fictional autobiography of his main character Ebenezer Le Page, a tomato grower and fisherman, born in the late nineteenth century who lived his whole life in ‘The Vale’, Guernsey, the parish where The Guernsey Clematis Nursery is situated. The story is about his life and the dramatic changes on the Island from the late 19th century to the 1960’s.

In the novel, Ebenezer’s love of his life is Liza Queripel, so Raymond Evison Clematis Ltd. The Guernsey Clematis Nursery Ltd have combined a little of Ebenezer and Liza to name this clematis ‘Eliza’. 2026 also sees the release of clematis Ithemba™ EviGsy157(PBR) and clematis Queen’s Nurse™ EviGsy159(PBR).

This large-flowered clematis opens as a pale violet/blue, soon maturing to pure white with contrasting deep red tipped anthers. The blooms are ruffled or wavy, being produced from late spring through to early summer then repeat flowers from late summer onwards. A generous volume of blooms covers the plant from base to tip making for a very impressive display.

With its compact habit and height of 90 to 120 centimetres, Eliza would make a wonderful addition to a patio, in a container, or in the mid to front of a flower border on an obelisk or growing through host plants, where its longevity of successive flowers can be fully appreciated. In late winter/early Spring simply reduce all stems down to 6" (15 centimetre) of soil level.
